10 signs your website is losing you customers right now
A bad website does not just look unprofessional — it actively drives potential customers away. Here are 10 warning signs to look for.
Your website might be working against you
Most business owners focus on getting more traffic to their website. But if the website itself has problems, more traffic just means more people leaving.
Here are 10 signs your website is costing you customers — and what to do about each one.
1. It loads slowly
People will not wait more than 3 seconds for a page to load. If your site is slow, visitors leave before they even see your content.
How to check: Go to PageSpeed Insights and enter your URL. A score below 70 is a problem.
2. It does not work on mobile
More than 60% of web traffic is now on mobile phones. If your website looks broken on a phone screen, you are losing more than half your potential customers.
How to check: Open your website on your phone and try to use it. Can you read the text without zooming? Can you tap the buttons easily?
3. It has no clear call to action
When someone lands on your website, what do you want them to do? If that is not obvious within 5 seconds, they will leave without doing anything.
Every page should have one clear next step — "Get a quote", "Call us", "Book a visit."
4. The contact information is hard to find
If a potential customer has to search for your phone number or email, they will give up. Your contact details should be visible on every page — in the header or footer at minimum.
5. It looks outdated
People judge your business by your website. A site that looks like it was built in 2012 tells visitors that either you do not care about your image, or your business is not doing well.
Design trends change. A modern, clean website builds trust before a word is read.
6. There are broken links or error pages
Nothing destroys trust faster than clicking a link and getting a "Page Not Found" error. It tells visitors your website is not being looked after.
How to check: Use a free tool like Broken Link Checker to scan your site.
7. It is not showing up on Google
If people search for your service in your city and your website does not appear, it does not matter how good your site looks. You are invisible.
This is an SEO problem — and it is fixable.
8. The content is out of date
Old prices, past events still listed, or a "Latest news" section last updated two years ago — all of these tell visitors your business is not active or trustworthy.
9. It is not secure (no HTTPS)
If your website URL starts with "http://" instead of "https://", browsers will show visitors a "Not Secure" warning. This is a major trust killer, especially for any page that collects information.
How to check: Look at your browser address bar. There should be a padlock icon and "https" at the start.
10. You are embarrassed to share it
This is the most honest test. If you hesitate before sending your website link to a potential client — that feeling is telling you something important.
What to do next
If your website has even two or three of these problems, it is worth fixing. A proper website redesign pays for itself quickly if it converts even a small percentage of the visitors it was previously losing.
